Students and staff will walk laps on the playground for exercise.
Students and staff will become ready and wide awake for a full day of learning.
Tickets or card stock tickets
Donated prizes (monthly and grand prize at the end of the year)
Bag or container in each classroom to collect daily tickets
Solicit prizes or money to buy prizes from local businesses. Either have one person or a committee do this.
Students receive a ticket when they enter the playground to walk, weather permitting, before school. Tickets are counted to track the number of students walking each day. Students proceed to walk laps until the bell rings. When returning to their classroom, students write their name on the ticket and put it in the collection container in their classroom.
At the end of each month, tickets are drawn for prizes. The total number of monthly prizewinners is determined by the number of monthly prizes available.
All tickets are retained for a big drawing at the end of the year. Typically there is a bicycle donated for the grand prize winner.
During the course of the school year, ticket counts are tracked and paw prints are put on the bulletin board in increments of 1,000 walkers. A goal of 23,000 walkers is set for the entire year.
Keep track of how many goals are met. Teachers report that students start the day more settled on the days they can participate in Klub Kennedy walking.
