SUBJECT:
My First Lansbury Lesson/Intro of dog and basic rules

OBJECTIVES:

Students will meet Lansbury and have a chance to interact individually with him.

Students will learn the rules for being around service and therapy dogs.

Students will learn, specifically, how to interact with Lansbury at school (vest, “thumb wave,” handkerchief, not crowding, no food), Gentle Leader (not muzzle).

MATERIALS:

Projector and computer loaded with the Lansbury slides from this link:  http://tinyurl.com/o5esxlt

Vest

Handkerchief

Food/treats

Gentle Leader

PROCEDURE:

Show the Power Point slide show. After each slide, talk about and demonstrate the things mentioned.
Ask for further questions students might have. Allow all students to meet Lansbury by walking around the room, allowing them to pet him and say hello to him.

EVALUATION:

Observe students interacting with Lansbury in school situations.  Ask teachers periodically if they feel students need more information about Lansbury.  Follow up on an as needed basis. Later in the year you might ask students if they have any other questions about Lansbury or any other suggestions for rules they would add.
